What do children in need of Vitamin A, food security in the Philippines, antibiotic resistant bacteria, HIV vaccine development, and biodiesel fuel have in common?  They are all subjects written about by Professor Stanley Kowalski!  Dr Kowalski holds a PhD from Cornell University in Plant Breeding. He’s been the director of the school’s International Technical Transfer Institute since its founding. ITTI’s mission is to advance science, technology, and innovation in developing countries via advocacy, education, and capacity building in intellectual property management, technology transfer, and patent information systems. His work, at the corner of IP and Biotechnology, leads the students in the ITTI clinic to “construct patent landscapes, forge international networks, formulate strategic plans, draft reports, author publications, present at professional meetings, and engage in detailed strategic discussions with key organizations such as the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, United States Patent and Trademark Office, the World Bank, the World Intellectual Property Organization, and the World Health Organization.”[1]
Dr Kowalski’s work is presently the subject of the Law Library’s ‘Faculty Spotlight.’  Check it out the next time you walk by.
